How it works

Once enrolled, challengers, download this year’s six challenges below! Each challenge has two options: A. Trail Blazer or B. Trail Explorer. Trail Blazers, expect routes that are between 1-5 miles and usually of easy to moderate nature. Trail Explorers, routes will be anywhere from 5-13 miles and are a bit more strenuous. Whichever route you select the scenery will not disappoint!

Challengers can choose to either hike, bike, or ride the challenges (note: some routes may limit use of bikes or horses). After completion, track your accomplishments here to be entered into monthly drawings to win fun raffle prizes and swag. If you complete all six challenges you will receive an exclusive Tahoe Rim Trail Challenge patch. As a challenger, you will be invited to special Challenges of the Month and the Trail Challenge Facebook group. Don’t miss out on all the fun we have planned this season on the Tahoe Rim Trail!

Why become a Trail Challenger

The Tahoe Rim Trail Challenge is designed to expose novice and seasoned hikers, bikers, and horseback riders to new trails and access points found on the Tahoe Rim Trail. The Challenge is a fun, self-guided introduction to six easy and moderate routes (changed annually) which explore stunning vistas, wildflowers, meadows, historical sites, and alpine lakes. The Challenge is a great opportunity to gather your friends, family members, co-workers, or four legged pals and discover unforgettable parts of the trail together! We give you the map and info; you go on your own time, at your own pace and have all the enjoyment!

Challenge of the Month

Heavy snow fall followed by spring flooding has left many of our public lands littered with debris. As stewards of our beaches, parks and trails lets help keep them clean. This month bring along a trash bag when you go for your walk, hike, jog, or ride and help Pack it Out. Next show us what you found! Take a picture and share it with other challengers through the Facebook community group or send it to info@tahoerimtrail.org. For more info on the 7 principles of Leave No Trace click here

I will give your name to a gal in my meetup group. I had planned on doing it as well but had postpone. Perhaps she will join you, I know she was interested in doing it when I was. Her name is Jennifer. I hope your friend heals up soon.
