The TRTA is the primary steward of the Tahoe Rim Trail system\, and TINS is a valuable ecological stewardship organization and community education provider. Together\, our organizations collaborate to provide educational experiences in this Autumn Exploration Series across the Tahoe Rim Trail and throughout the Basin. \nNaturalist Sarah Hockensmith will lead the group along the trail and teach you all about local wildflowers and the animals that rely on them to survive. Bring your camera for this event and get ready to enjoy nature’s colorful show! \nThis hike climbs to over 9\,000 ft. elevation. But\, the plastic crisis doesn’t stop at the ocean\, and they’ve set their sights on the Tahoe Basin for their first land-based scientific expedition. Come learn about the microplastics research that we are collaborating on this summer! We will also be joined by Keep Tahoe Blue\, who will share some of the latest on their work to prevent plastic pollution in Lake Tahoe.   \nAt this event\, we will use the TrashBlitz app to collect data on brands\, materials\, and items found along the trail. Although removing trash from an area has an immediate positive effect on the natural environment and human experience\, each piece of trash collected and inventoried with TrashBlitz will also contribute to local\, national\, and global datasets to help inform policy in the United States and around the world and hold corporate polluters accountable. Cascade Kitchen is Tahoe’s premier gathering place\, featuring a diverse lineup of local food stalls serving up everything from artisanal eats to comfort food classics. \nHere is how it works: Gather your family\, friends\, and trail buddies\, and head down to Cascade Kitchen on Friday\, August 28th. Order dinner\, drinks\, or treats from any stall in the building\, and 10% of all sales from the entire evening will be donated directly back to the TRTA!
