SUMMARY:Western White Pines Hike with SPF
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \nDetails\n\nDescription\nThe Sugar Pine Foundation (SPF) is a local nonprofit dedicated to restoring native pine forests in the Tahoe Region and beyond. The Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) serves as the primary steward of the Tahoe Rim Trail System\, ensuring its protection and accessibility. Together\, our organizations collaborate to offer engaging educational experiences along the Tahoe Rim Trail and throughout the Basin. \nCome meet the western white pine—a towering emblem of the American West\, distinguished by its soft needles and stately presence. This remarkable tree is more than just a forest giant; it’s a resilient survivor\, facing threats from logging\, urban development\, and the challenges of a changing climate. An introduced fungus has devastated many western white pines west of the Cascades\, making Tahoe a vital stronghold for this majestic species. \nJoin a SPF tree specialist who will share the Sugar Pine Foundation’s efforts to protect and restore the western white pine. \nCome hike with us\, enjoy beautiful views of Carson Valley and deepen your understanding of forest ecology\, conservation\, and the enduring beauty of Tahoe’s white pines! \nWhat to Expect\nFor the weather forecast in this area\, check out this link to the NOAA website. \nTRTA/SPF treks are group treks\, and we do our best to keep the group together. All TRTA guides and SPF staff dedicate a great deal of their time throughout the year sharing their passion for the outdoors. They are well-trained and experienced. Please respect the decisions made on the trail. \nIt is also critical that you sign up for a trek that is appropriate for you and your skill set. This request is for the safety of you\, the group\, and our leadership. Read the trek description carefully\, and sign up for treks that you are capable of participating in and can enjoy.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] \n\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_column_text css=””] \nDifficulty\nModerate \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_column_text css=””] \nDistance\n3 miles roundtrip \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_column_text css=””] \nLocation\nKingsbury South / Stagecoach Trailhead[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_column_text] \nTime\n9:00 am to ~12:00 pm \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] \n\nWhat to Bring\n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text] \n\n\n\nWater (~one liter per person)\nSnacks\nWindbreaker/ warm jacket\nClosed-toed shoes\nTrekking poles (optional)\nLip Balm (≥ SPF 15+)\nSunscreen\n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text] \n\n\n\nSunglasses\nHat\nField guide (optional)\nBinoculars (optional)\nCamera (optional)\nPersonal Medications/Epi-Pen*\n*Communicate any medical issues in a private conversation with your guides at the trailhead.\n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \n\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=””] \nFor more information about the hike\, contact fionap@tahoerimtrail.org.\n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”55px”][vc_column_text css=””] \nPlease click the button below to register.\n[/vc_column_text][vc_btn title=”Registration full – join the waitlist here” color=”danger” size=”lg” align=”center” css_animation=”fadeIn” css=”” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.tfaforms.com%2F4978171|target:_blank”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text] \n\n\n\nCheck out more about our wonderful partners at:\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:TrashBlitz with 5 Gyres and Keep Tahoe Blue
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \nDetails\n\nDescription\nJoin the Tahoe Rim Trail Association and our partner organizations 5 Gyres and Keep Tahoe Blue to collect and inspect trash along the waterfall trail at Van Sickle Bi-State Park! 5 Gyres is a non-profit that was founded to study ocean plastics and they’ve set their sights on the Tahoe Basin for their first land-based scientific expedition. \nAt this event\, we will use their phone app TrashBlitz to collect data on brands\, materials\, and items found along the trail. Although removing trash from an area has an immediate positive effect on the natrual environment and human experience\, each piece of trash collected and inventoried with the TrashBlitz app will also contribute to local\, national\, and global datasets to help inform policy in the United States and around the world and hold corporate polluters accountable. In particular\, this data will contribute to a larger research project 5 Gyres is leading along the entire TRT this summer in collaboration with the TRTA. \n  \nWhat to Expect\nWe will meet at the Nevada parking lot trailhead and get outfitted with gloves\, trash grabbers\, and bags from Keep Tahoe Blue. Then we will hike up to the waterfall collecting trash along the way. Once we return to the trailhead\, we will use the TrashBlitz app to perform a trash audit. \nPlease keep in mind\, TRTA outings are group outings\, and we do our best to keep the group together.
