SUMMARY:Happy National Trails Day! Caldor Fire Restoration Workday
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Join us for a fun day celebrating National Trails Day. We will be working on the Tahoe Rim Trail near Echo Summit at Adventure Mountain. We’ve partnered with the Four Wheel Campers for this event. The Four Wheel Campers are providing limited camping for interested participants at Wylder Hope Valley and the USFS Kit Carson Campground. Reserve your spot to camp out by registering on Eventbrite. Sign up to participate in this workday here. Trail crew volunteers will restore the trail and surrounding area that was impacted by the Caldor Fire. This includes repairing rock walls\, widening and strengthening trail tread\, improving or adding drainages\, and naturalizing the area that was impacted by heavy equipment during fire suppression efforts. No prior trail work experience is required! The trail crew will run from 9 AM to 4 PM PST. Volunteers will be expected to carry small hand tools\, and the total distance hiked will be around 5 miles round trip. \n  \nCome out and help repair the trails you love!\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] \nThank you to our generous workday sponsors!\n [/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_empty_space][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_empty_space][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Tahoe Summer Exploration Series: Nature Walk with TINS
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nDetails\n \nDescription\nAs part of the Tahoe Summer Exploration Series\, the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science (TINS) and the Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) have partnered to provide summer excursions on a variety of nature-based topics. \nDid you know Lake Tahoe’s maximum depth is 1\,645 feet and is the fifth deepest lake in the world? Have you ever looked over the lake to the peaks and wondered which one is which? What if you had someone standing next to you that could explain what you were looking at from different types of flowers to peak names to how Tahoe’s hydrology works and stays so so blue? Let us put the earth and colors into perspective and join us on a guided tour of Tahoe’s intricacies with TINS naturalist\, Sarah Hockensmith\, and TRTA guide\, Jennifer Coon \nThis ~four-mile\, moderately easy\, out-and-back trek is family-friendly and appropriate for ages 12 and up. \n  \nWhat to Expect\nTRTA/TINS treks are group treks\, and we do our best to keep the group together. All trek leaders dedicate a great deal of their time throughout the year sharing their passion for the outdoors. They are well-trained and experienced. Please respect their decisions made on the trail. \n  \nCOVID-19 Policy\nA COVID-19 screening will be conducted at the trailhead. Do not attempt to join if you have experienced any COVID-19 symptoms as outlined by the Center for Disease Control within 14 days of the trek: shortness of breath or difficulty breathing\, fever\, chills\, muscle pain\, sore throat\, loss of taste\, or smell. Do not attempt to join if you have been or may have been exposed to someone that has or may have COVID-19 within 14 days of the trek. \n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] \n\n \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_column_text] \nDifficulty\nEasy-Moderate \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_column_text] \nDistance\n~4 miles round trip \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_column_text] \nLocation\nKingsbury North Trailhead[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_column_text] \nTime\n9:00 AM to ~12:00 PM \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \n\n \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_empty_space height=”56px”][vc_column_text] \nWhat to Bring\n\nWater (~one liter per person)\nSnacks\nWindbreaker/ warm jacket\nClosed-toed shoes\nTrekking poles (optional)\nLip Balm (≥ SPF 15+)\nSunscreen\nSunglasses\nHat\nField guide (optional)\nBinoculars (optional)\nCamera (optional)\nPersonal Medications/Epi-Pen*\n*Be sure to communicate any medical issues in a private conversation with your guides at the trailhead.\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Check out more about our wonderful partners at the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science! \n \n  \nFor more information\, contact Lindsey at lindseys@tahoerimtrail.org .\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text] \n                                                          \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n \n \n Register Today!\n\n \n Sorry\, this form is not available. \n \n \n \n \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Task Force Trailhead Echo Summit & Van Sickle
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nTask Force Trailhead\n  \nOur Task Force Trailhead Ambassadors fill an essential role in communicating environmental best practices to a growing number of trail users and nature lovers. Bear-proof food storage\, such as a bear keg\, is required (bear hangs are not allowed). This is a true wilderness camp and volunteers should have some backpacking experience. Meals will be prepared on backpacking stoves and freeze dried meals will be provided. This camp is rated Most Strenuous (but most rewarding!).[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] \nPlease email  KristineK@tahoerimtrail.org if you have any questions.\nSchedule\nParticipants will meet Monday at 8:30 am\, July 11th\, at the Tahoe Rim Trail Office. We will caravan to the Horse Meadows Trailhead. There is plenty of parking\, and participants can leave their vehicles at the trailhead if they’d like. We’ll hike our gear 3-miles to our camp location near the worksite. We’ll camp out for three nights\, spending our days repairing eroded sections of the trail and widening the trail corridor by brushing and rebuilding the rock retaining wall. After work\, there will be plenty of time for exploration and hiking to enjoy beautiful views or a hike to Star Lake. We’ll return to the Horse Meadow trailhead Thursday late afternoon\, around 2 pm. \nPlease note! Our camp and worksite are at high elevations. If you will be traveling from low elevation or are not accustomed to strenuous activity at high elevation\, we recommend you arrive in the Tahoe area several days in advance to acclimate to local conditions. \n\nWhat to Bring\nAll volunteers must dress appropriately for each day of work\, including long-sleeved shirts\, long pants\, and sturdy\, closed-toe shoes\, boots preferred. You should also bring everything you need for four days in the wilderness\, including lightweight camping and cooking gear\, warm clothes\, etc. Plan to bring containers (water bottles\, bladders\, etc.) for at least 3 liters of water\, sunglasses or other eye protection\, sunscreen\, any medications\, and other personal items you’ll need. Don’t have all the fancy backpacking stuff? Just let us know. We have the gear to loan out. The TRTA will provide food (on request)\, experienced crew leaders\, tools\, and required safety equipment such as hard hats and gloves. \n\nWho to Bring\nWilderness Backpacking Camps require previous backpacking experience\, preferably at altitude in the Sierra Nevada. This is not an appropriate opportunity for people looking to spend their first night in a tent. Minors aged 16+ are welcome so long as a parent or legal guardian accompanies them. Please fill out the Parent/Guardian Permission Form in such a case Parent/Guardian Permission Form. \n  \nCome out and help build some great trails!\n  \nThanks to our partners for making this project possible!\n \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

This camp is rated Most Strenuous (but most rewarding!).[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] \n Please email your interest to KristineK@tahoerimtrail.org or follow the link to sign up.\n\nSchedule\nParticipants will meet the crew on Monday\, July 18th\, at the TRTA office in Stateline\, NV\, and be shuttled to the Bayview trailhead near Emerald Bay at 6:45 am. Volunteers may meet the crew at Bayview TH at 7:45\, but overnight parking at the trailhead is NOT recommended due to recent bear activity (several cars have been damaged in the past few years) and a fee of $10.00. It is recommended that those meeting the crew at Bayview are dropped off/picked up. We’ll pack our gear 5.5 miles and over 1000 feet up to our camp location near Middle Velma Lake. We’ll camp out for three nights\, spending our days repairing eroded sections of the trail by installing and armoring drainage features and building stone steps. There will be plenty of time after work for exploration\, fishing\, swimming\, and enjoying the beauty of Desolation Wilderness. We’ll return to Bayview by the afternoon of Thursday\, July 21st\, and shuttle the crew back to the TRTA office. There is a strict cap on the number of participants on this crew to respect the US Forest Service’s group size limit in Desolation Wilderness. \nPlease note! Our camp and worksite are at a high elevation\, approximately 8000 feet. If you will be traveling from low elevations or are not accustomed to strenuous activity at high elevations\, we recommend you arrive in the Tahoe area several days in advance to acclimate to local conditions. \nWhat to Bring\nAll volunteers must dress appropriately for each day of work\, including long-sleeved shirts\, long pants\, and sturdy\, closed-toe shoes. You should also bring everything you need for four days in the wilderness\, including lightweight camping and cooking gear\, warm clothes\, etc. Plan to bring containers for at least 3 liters of water\, sunglasses or other eye protection\, sunscreen\, medications\, and other personal items. Don’t have all the fancy stuff? Just let us know; we have the gear to loan out. The TRTA provides food (on request)\, safety equipment such as hard hats and gloves\, tools\, and experienced crew leaders. \nWho to Bring\nWilderness Backpacking Camps require previous backpacking experience\, preferably at altitude in the Sierra Nevada. This is not an appropriate opportunity for people looking to spend their first night in a tent. Minors aged 16+ are welcome so long as a parent or legal guardian accompanies them. Please fill out the Parent/Guardian Permission Form in such a case Parent/Guardian Permission Form. \n  \nCome out and help build some great trails!\n  \nThank you to our generous supporters!\n  \n  \n                                                 \n  \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Caldor Fire Aftermath Trek with SPF- July
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nDetails\n \nDescription\nThe Sugar Pine Foundation (SPF) and the Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) are teaming up for a morning of education and fun at Echo Summit. As we all know\, 2021’s Caldor Fire wreaked havoc on the Tahoe Rim Trail near and on Echo Summit. After we meet up with Maria\, our expert at the Sugar Pine Foundation\, our group will join Master Trail Builder and TRT Segment Coordinator Don Bailey to discuss how this fire damaged the trail and the surrounding area and what he and his crew have to do to mitigate the fire damage and new hazards and repair the charred trail. Maria will also explain the effects of this fire on the area’s trees and their fate.  \nWhat to Expect\nTRTA outings are group outings\, and we do our best to keep the group together. Trip leaders dedicate a great deal of their time throughout the year sharing their passion for the outdoors. They are well-trained and experienced. Please respect their decisions made on the trail. \nCOVID-19 Policy\nA COVID-19 screening will be conducted at the trailhead. Do not attempt to join if you have experienced any COVID-19 symptoms as outlined by the Center for Disease Control within 10 days of the trek: shortness of breath or difficulty breathing\, cough\, congestion\, fever\, chills\, muscle pain\, sore throat\, loss of taste\, or smell. This is a fun opportunity to meet other volunteers and give back to the trails you love! \n [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text] \nLet us know if you’ll be there! \n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]\n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n\n\nFirst Name\n\n\nLast Name\n\n\nBest Phone\n\n\nEmail Address\n\n\n\nSelect the location you'll be joining a Taskforce Trailhead Training Day!Sunday\, July 31\, 9 AM to 12 AM Tahoe City 64 Acres Trailhead\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”16px”][vc_column_text] \nJoin our 2022 Trail Ambassador Task Force Team!\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] \n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] \n\n \n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row]
