DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nCourse Description\nThe Tahoe Rim Trail Association is hosting a two-day Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course taught by NOLS Wilderness Medicine (NOLS WM). This course provides individuals with a foundation in important first-aid concepts critical to responding effectively to emergencies in a remote backcountry environment. \nThis fast-paced\, hands-on training is designed to meet the needs of trip leaders\, camp staff\, outdoor enthusiasts\, and individuals working in remote locations. It will introduce you to caring for people who become ill or injured far from definitive medical care. Classroom lectures and demonstrations are combined with realistic scenarios where mock patients will challenge you to integrate your learning. At the end of the course\, you’ll have the knowledge\, skills\, and ability to make sound decisions in emergencies. \nThis course may also be used to recertify NOLS Wilderness Medicine Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and NOLS Wilderness Medicine WEMT (wilderness portion only) certifications. \nClose physical contact is an inherent part of this course. Vaccines\, boosters\, and negative tests are not required to attend this course but all students are encouraged to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and up-to-date with any boosters they are eligible to receive. This excursion will take you through pine forests until you reach scenic vistas of Lake Tahoe. While being guided by trained TRTA Guides\, TINS naturalist Sarah Hockensmith will discuss winter ecology concepts\, falcons\, and geology in the Basin. This three-mile\, moderately difficult\, out-and-back hike is family-friendly and appropriate for ages 12 and up. \nWhat to Expect\nTRTA/TINS hikes are group hikes\, and we do our best to keep the group together. Trip leaders dedicate a great deal of their time throughout the year\, sharing their passion for the outdoors. They are well-trained and experienced. DESCRIPTION:April 22 is EARTH DAY! The theme of this Earth Week is Tahoe VS. Plastic. Will you be a part of the fight? ⁠\n⁠\nOur partners and friends\, Keep Tahoe Blue are hosting their annual community Earth Day Clean Up on April 22 from 8 AM to 12 PM in South Lake Tahoe. ⁠\n⁠\nTRTA will be there to join the fight and you can stop by our booth to learn about volunteer opportunities\, our guided hikes\, and how to leave no trace on trail. ⁠\n  \nSign up: \n\nSign up here. You will receive a confirmation from no-reply@galaxydigital.com.\nFinal details will be sent a few days prior to the event to those that sign up. We will work on the Tahoe Rim Trail and clean up trash around 64 Acres Pathway and Commons Beach. You get to choose which way you want to volunteer! \nAll volunteers will meet at the 64 acres trailhead for some donuts and coffee at 8:30 AM. Trail crew volunteers will widen the trail corridor and clean drainages on the Tahoe Rim Trail. No prior trail work experience is required!  Cleanup volunteers will be grabbing Keep Tahoe Blue clean up tools and hit the 64 acres pathway and Commons Beach. \nALL volunteers will gather after some coffee and donuts at 9:00 AM for a debrief and either hit the trail or pathway. \nWe will wrap up trail work and the clean up around 1:00 PM\, meet back at the trailhead and celebrate with a raffle from our awesome partners and head over to our post-volunteer celebration at National Tahoe Brewery. Together\, our organizations partner to provide educational experiences across the Tahoe Rim Trail and throughout the Basin. Join us for a guided hike at Van Sickle Bi-State Park in the heart of South Lake Tahoe to discover reforestation efforts around the Tahoe area. At this guided hike and presentation\, discover how SPF is helping to ensure healthier forests for future generations. Learn about efforts to restore sugar pine populations while exploring SPF worksites with sugar pine seedlings\, which will be used to reforest local wildfire scars. DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \nDescription\nThe Sugar Pine Foundation (SPF) is a local non-profit organization dedicated to restoring the natural regeneration of white pines in the Tahoe Region and beyond. The Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) is the primary steward of the Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT) System. Together\, our organizations partner to provide educational experiences across the Tahoe Rim Trail and throughout the Basin. \nCome meet the western white pine\, a towering emblem of the American West\, boasting soft needles and a regal presence. It’s not just any tree—it’s a warrior battling threats from logging\, urban sprawl\, and climate woes\, earning its status as a state concern. An introduced fungus has wiped out many of the western white pine west of the Cascades and Tahoe is a significant stronghold for this majestic species. Tree specialist Maria Mircheva will teach us about Sugar Pine Foundation’s efforts to protect this beautiful tree and will lead the group along the Tahoe Rim Trail to see some beautiful examples of this majestic pine. \nCome hike in the woods with us and learn about forest ecology along the way! \nWhat to Expect\nTRTA outings are group outings\, and we do our best to keep the group together. SUMMARY:Horse Meadows Backcountry Camp
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nHorse Meadows Backcountry Camp\nCampout with us at Horse Meadows Trailhead and reroute the existing trail to restore drainage and trail sustainability for years to come.\n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_empty_space][vc_text_separator title=”What to Expect” color=”blue” style=”shadow” border_width=”5″][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] \nThis is an overnight trail work camp to improve the TRT connector trail called the Horse Meadows Trail off Highway 89 near Luther Pass. The trail crew will camp near the Horse Meadow Trailhead and work on the Horse Meadows Trail. Volunteers are invited to arrive at camp Thursday evening or Friday morning to start work on Friday morning. Horse Meadows Trailhead requires travel on Forest Service Road 51\, Willow Creek Road\, a 3.3-mile dirt and gravel backcountry road with some navigation around large potholes. A 4WD\, high-clearance vehicle is recommended. There is little to no cell service in this area. An optional shuttle to camp from the TRTA office in Stateline\, NV departs on Thursday at 4:30 PM. All meals are provided by the TRTA and prepared by a camp cook on site. Camping gear is not provided. Hard hats\, tools\, eye protection\, and gloves are provided by the TRTA.
