DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \nThe Tahoe Rim Trail Association\, in partnership with Keep Tahoe Blue\, American Hiking Society and Nevada State Parks\, is kicking off the trail season by spending the day caring for one of the most loved trail systems in the Tahoe Basin\, Van Sickle Bi-State Park.\nNational Trails Day is a chance to get outdoors\, connect with your community\, and give back to the places you love! This year\, you get to choose between trail work with the TRTA and a trash cleanup with Keep Tahoe Blue. \nEveryone will meet at Van Sickle Bi-State Park at 8:30 AM to share a cup of coffee and pastries with our fellow community members. SUMMARY:Types of Conifers Hike at Brockway with SPF
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \nDescription\nThe Sugar Pine Foundation (SPF) is a local nonprofit dedicated to restoring native pine forests in the Tahoe Region and beyond. The Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) serves as the primary steward of the Tahoe Rim Trail System\, ensuring its protection and accessibility. Together\, our organizations collaborate to offer engaging educational experiences along the Tahoe Rim Trail and throughout the Basin. \nJoin us for a guided hike from Brockway Summit to Picnic Rock near Martis Peak\, where you’ll learn how to identify sugar pines\, Jeffrey pines\, and other native trees of the Tahoe area. During this hike and interactive presentation\, discover how SPF is working to create healthier forests for future generations. Learn about our ongoing efforts to restore sugar pine populations by planting seedlings grown from blister rust-resistant seed trees. \nCome explore the woods with us\, enjoy beautiful views of Lake Tahoe and deepen your understanding of forest ecology\, conservation\, and the unique beauty of Tahoe’s forests! \nWhat to Expect\nFor the weather forecast in this area\, check out this link to the NOAA website. \nTRTA/SPF treks are group treks\, and we do our best to keep the group together. All TRTA guides and SPF staff dedicate a great deal of their time throughout the year sharing their passion for the outdoors. They are well-trained and experienced. Please respect the decisions made on the trail. \nIt is also critical that you sign up for a trek that is appropriate for you and your skill set. SUMMARY:Backpacking 101
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \n$225 TRTA Members\, $250 TRTA Non-Members\n  \nCourse Description\nJoin the Tahoe Rim Trail Association for an informative and experiential Backpacking101 course. You will learn tips and tricks to enjoy a night out in the true Tahoe backcountry\, and practice planning all the trip logistics from choosing a destination to building a food menu. We welcome new and seasoned backcountry enthusiasts eager to upgrade their wilderness experience by learning how to backpack for the first time or adding to your existing skills. \nStudents can expect an afternoon in the classroom\, followed by a weekend overnight hike in the field for hands-on practice and to experience genuine backcountry living. There is also a virtual ‘shakedown’ meeting the weeks before hitting the trail to go over people’s gear\, discuss any questions\, and allow time for adjustments. Much of the essential backpacking gear can be provided to borrow during this event for folks that don’t have their own equipment. \nThe classroom portion will provide concepts in trip planning\, Leave No Trace principles and bear safety\, critical gear needs and how to pack\, and how to thrive in outdoor environments while mitigating risk to yourself and others. The field portion of this course is not an endurance test but will consist of a 5-mile hike into a wilderness area where students will receive hands-on instruction in making a successful camp\, water treatment\, cooking\, travel\, how to use gear\, and how to do all of this while protecting the environment. Our goal is for students to walk away from the course with new and additional skills\, knowledge\, and confidence to enjoy a backcountry adventure solo or with family and friends. \n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \n\nCourse Information\n\nMonday\, June 15\, 6 PM – 8 PM: Virtual Meeting\nFriday\, June 26\, 12 PM – 5 PM: Classroom at TRTA Office\nSaturday\, June 27 – Sunday\, June 28: Overnight Backpacking Trip along the TRT\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_btn title=”Register now!” style=”custom” custom_background=”#1E73BE” custom_text=”#ffffff” size=”lg” align=”center” css=”” button_block=”true” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Ftahoerimtrail.my.salesforce-sites.com%2F%2FCnP_PaaS_EVT__ExternalRegistrationPage%3Fevent_id%3Da24Un000009AsgHIAS%26|target:_blank”][vc_column_text] \nSecure your spot! \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][/vc_column][vc_column][vc_cta h2=”TRTA Membership Discount” h4=”Active TRTA Members get 10% off! SUMMARY:Western White Pines Hike with SPF
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \nDetails\n\nDescription\nThe Sugar Pine Foundation (SPF) is a local nonprofit dedicated to restoring native pine forests in the Tahoe Region and beyond. \nCome meet the western white pine—a towering emblem of the American West\, distinguished by its soft needles and stately presence. This remarkable tree is more than just a forest giant; it’s a resilient survivor\, facing threats from logging\, urban development\, and the challenges of a changing climate. An introduced fungus has devastated many western white pines west of the Cascades\, making Tahoe a vital stronghold for this majestic species. \nJoin a SPF tree specialist who will share the Sugar Pine Foundation’s efforts to protect and restore the western white pine. \nCome hike with us\, enjoy beautiful views of Carson Valley and deepen your understanding of forest ecology\, conservation\, and the enduring beauty of Tahoe’s white pines! \nWhat to Expect\nFor the weather forecast in this area\, check out this link to the NOAA website. \nTRTA/SPF treks are group treks\, and we do our best to keep the group together. SUMMARY:Birds\, Botany\, and Beavers Hike with TINS
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \nDescription\nJoin the Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) guides and nonprofit partner Tahoe Institute for Natural Science (TINS) for a guided nature walk around beautiful Spooner Lake as we explore the vibrant life that remains as summer winds down. Led by naturalist Sarah Hockensmith and volunteers from the Tahoe Rim Trail Association\, this outing is a perfect way to connect with nature during the last few days of summer. \nWe’ll be on the lookout for migrating birds headed south\, discover late-blooming wildflowers\, and search for signs of local beavers: from gnawed trees to dams and lodges\, there’s plenty of evidence of their busy activity! \nWhether you’re a birder\, botanist\, wildlife enthusiast\, or just enjoy being outdoors\, this adventure offers something for everyone. \nWhat to Expect\nFor the weather forecast in this area\, check out this link to the NOAA website. \nTRTA/TINS treks are group treks\, and we do our best to keep the group together. All TRTA guides and TINS staff dedicate a great deal of their time throughout the year sharing their passion for the outdoors. They are well-trained and experienced. Please respect the decisions made on the trail. \nIt is also critical that you sign up for a trek that is appropriate for you and your skill set. This request is for the safety of you\, the group\, and our leadership.
