SUMMARY:Backpacking 101
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \n$200 TRTA Members\, $225 TRTA Non-Members\n  \nCourse Description\nJoin the Tahoe Rim Trail Association for an informative and experiential Backpacking101 course. You will learn tips and tricks to enjoy a night out in the true Tahoe backcountry\, and practice planning all the trip logistics from choosing a destination to building a food menu. We welcome new and seasoned backcountry enthusiasts eager to upgrade their wilderness experience by learning how to backpack for the first time or adding to your existing skills. \nStudents can expect an afternoon in the classroom\, followed by a weekend overnight hike in the field for hands-on practice and to experience genuine backcountry living. There is also a virtual ‘shakedown’ meeting the week before to go over people’s gear\, discuss any questions\, and allow time for adjustments. \nThe classroom portion will provide concepts in trip planning\, Leave No Trace principles and bear safety\, critical gear needs and how to pack\, and how to thrive in outdoor environments while mitigating risk to yourself and others. The field portion of this course is not an endurance test but will consist of a 5-mile hike into a wilderness area where students will receive hands-on instruction in making a successful camp\, water treatment\, cooking\, travel\, how to use gear\, and how to do all of this while protecting the environment. Our goal is for students to walk away from the course with new and additional skills\, knowledge\, and confidence to enjoy a backcountry adventure solo or with family and friends. \n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \n\nCourse Information\n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_btn title=”Itinerary and Topics” style=”custom” custom_background=”#0093d6″ custom_text=”#ffffff” size=”lg” align=”center” css=”” button_block=”true” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fdocs.google.com%2Fdocument%2Fd%2F1Az4aOiDqpjKVtAsPJmkAyeHszwrw020d%2Fedit|target:_blank”][vc_column_text] \nDaily Topics\, Schedule \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_btn title=”Registration Information Here” style=”custom” custom_background=”#ff6659″ custom_text=”#ffffff” size=”lg” align=”center” css=”” button_block=”true” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Ftahoerimtrail.my.salesforce-sites.com%2FCnP_PaaS_EVT__ExternalRegistrationPage%3Fevent_id%3Da24Un0000010qxKIAQ|target:_blank”][vc_column_text] \nSecure your spot! \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_btn title=”Student Logistics” style=”custom” custom_background=”#0093d6″ custom_text=”#ffffff” size=”lg” align=”center” css=”” button_block=”true” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fdocs.google.com%2Fdocument%2Fd%2F1qHlIDOnVGE-gJGrQuuCu64837FYvWKZU%2Fedit|target:_blank”][vc_column_text] \nCancelation Policy\, Local Weather\, Lodging Options \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column][vc_cta h2=”TRTA Membership Discount” h4=”Active TRTA Members get 10% off! SUMMARY:Caldor Wildfire Forest Recovery Hike
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \nDescription\nThe Sugar Pine Foundation (SPF) is a local non-profit organization dedicated to restoring the natural regeneration of pines in the Tahoe Region and beyond. The Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) is the primary steward of the Tahoe Rim Trail System. Together\, our organizations partner to provide educational experiences across the Tahoe Rim Trail and throughout the Basin. Join us for a guided hike at Adventure Mountain on Echo Summit to see how the forest is recovering and adapting three years after the devastating Caldor wildfire swept through the area. What plants grow after a significant fire event\, and what does first and secondary succession look like? Forest specialist\, Maria Mircheva from the Sugar Pine Foundation\, is here to answer all your questions. Come hike in the woods with us and learn about forest ecology along the way! \nWhat to Expect\nTRTA outings are group outings\, and we do our best to keep the group together. SUMMARY:Western White Pine Hike w/ the Sugar Pine Foundation
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \nDescription\nThe Sugar Pine Foundation (SPF) is a local non-profit organization dedicated to restoring the natural regeneration of white pines in the Tahoe Region and beyond. The Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) is the primary steward of the Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT) System. Together\, our organizations partner to provide educational experiences across the Tahoe Rim Trail and throughout the Basin. \nCome meet the western white pine\, a towering emblem of the American West\, boasting soft needles and a regal presence. It’s not just any tree—it’s a warrior battling threats from logging\, urban sprawl\, and climate woes\, earning its status as a state concern. An introduced fungus has wiped out many of the western white pine west of the Cascades and Tahoe is a significant stronghold for this majestic species. Tree specialist Maria Mircheva will teach us about Sugar Pine Foundation’s efforts to protect this beautiful tree and will lead the group along the Tahoe Rim Trail to see some beautiful examples of this majestic pine. \nCome hike in the woods with us and learn about forest ecology along the way! \nWhat to Expect\nTRTA outings are group outings\, and we do our best to keep the group together. Trip leaders dedicate much of their time throughout the year\, sharing their passion for the outdoors. They are well-trained and experienced. SUMMARY:Horse Meadows Backcountry Camp
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nHorse Meadows Backcountry Camp\nCampout with us at Horse Meadows Trailhead and reroute the existing trail to restore drainage and trail sustainability for years to come.\n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_empty_space][vc_text_separator title=”What to Expect” color=”blue” style=”shadow” border_width=”5″][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] \nThis is an overnight trail work camp to improve the TRT connector trail called the Horse Meadows Trail off Highway 89 near Luther Pass. The trail crew will camp near the Horse Meadow Trailhead and work on the Horse Meadows Trail. Volunteers are invited to arrive at camp Thursday evening or Friday morning to start work on Friday morning. Horse Meadows Trailhead requires travel on Forest Service Road 51\, Willow Creek Road\, a 3.3-mile dirt and gravel backcountry road with some navigation around large potholes. A 4WD\, high-clearance vehicle is recommended. There is little to no cell service in this area. An optional shuttle to camp from the TRTA office in Stateline\, NV departs on Thursday at 4:30 PM. All meals are provided by the TRTA and prepared by a camp cook on site. Camping gear is not provided. Hard hats\, tools\, eye protection\, and gloves are provided by the TRTA. This camp is rated moderate because trail work and camping require using tools and getting dirty. \n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=”What to Bring” color=”blue” style=”shadow” border_width=”5″][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner gap=”3″ css=”.vc_custom_1688159234637{border-top-width: 0.25px !important;border-right-width: 0.25px !important;border-bottom-width: 0.25px !important;border-left-width: 0.25px !important;background-color: #5e5e5e !important;border-radius: 1px !important;}”][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Camping \n\nTent\nSleep system (sleeping bag\, pad\, and pillow)\nCamp attire (comfortable\, warm options and camp shoes)\nCamp towel\nChair\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Workday \n\nHat\, sunglasses\, sunscreen\, etc.\nDaypack with 3L water capacity\nLong sleeve and pants\nDurable\, close-toed shoes or boots\nWork gloves and eye protection (optional)\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=”Schedule” color=”blue” style=”shadow” border_width=”5″][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner gap=”5″ css=”.vc_custom_1688161029493{background-color: #5e5e5e !important;}”][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″][vc_column_text] \nThursday\, 8/8\n-4:30 PM Optional shuttle from TRTA Office\n-6:00 PM Dinner served at camp\n-7:00 PM Self-shuttle arrival cutoff[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″][vc_column_text] \nFriday\, 8/9\n-8:00 AM Self-shuttle arrival cutoff\n-9:00 AM Workday begins\n-4:00 PM Workday ends\n-Breakfast\, lunch\, and dinner provided \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″][vc_column_text] \nSaturday\, 8/10\n-9:00 AM Workday begins\n-4:00 PM Workday ends\n-Breakfast\, lunch\, and dinner provided \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″][vc_column_text] \nSunday\, 8/11\n-9:00 AM Workday begins\n-1:00 PM Workday ends\, shuttle back to TRTA office\n-Breakfast and lunch provided \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_text_separator title=”No Experience Needed” color=”blue” style=”shadow” border_width=”5″][vc_empty_space height=”50px”][vc_btn title=”Register Today!” style=”gradient-custom” gradient_custom_color_1=”#1b1b45″ gradient_custom_color_2=”#5d9da6″ size=”lg” align=”center” i_icon_fontawesome=”fas fa-hard-hat” css_animation=”slideInLeft” button_block=”true” add_icon=”true” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.tfaforms.com%2F5118238|target:_blank”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][/vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][/vc_column]

SUMMARY:Summer Exploration Series: North Shore Nature Ramble
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \nDescription\nJoin the Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) guides and partner Tahoe Institute for Natural Science (TINS) on a stroll from Brockway Summit on Highway 267 along the Tahoe Rim Trail to Picnic Rock with trained naturalists. The TRTA is the primary steward of the Tahoe Rim Trail system\, and TINS is a valuable ecological stewardship organization and community education provider. Together\, our organizations collaborate to provide educational experiences across the Tahoe Rim Trail and throughout the Basin. \nTINS naturalist Will Richardson leads the way in search of wildlife\, wildflowers\, and spectacular scenery along the Tahoe Rim Trail. Enjoy nature’s treasures before soaking up the great views of Lake Tahoe on the north shore. We will discuss natural history topics related to geology\, forest ecology\, birds\, and anything Nature in Tahoe! Bring your binoculars and inquisitive minds for this nature ramble with TRTA and TINS. Exact mileage will be determined by the group’s pace and interest in hiking over observing\, but will not exceed 4 miles during this event. We will gain 750′ from the cars\, so come prepared to hike uphill. \nWhat to Expect\nTRTA outings are group outings\, and we do our best to keep the group together. Trip leaders dedicate much of their time throughout the year\, sharing their passion for the outdoors. They are well-trained and experienced.
