SUMMARY:Western White Pine Hike w/ the Sugar Pine Foundation
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \nDescription\nThe Sugar Pine Foundation (SPF) is a local non-profit organization dedicated to restoring the natural regeneration of white pines in the Tahoe Region and beyond. The Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) is the primary steward of the Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT) System. Together\, our organizations partner to provide educational experiences across the Tahoe Rim Trail and throughout the Basin. \nCome meet the western white pine\, a towering emblem of the American West\, boasting soft needles and a regal presence. It’s not just any tree—it’s a warrior battling threats from logging\, urban sprawl\, and climate woes\, earning its status as a state concern. An introduced fungus has wiped out many of the western white pine west of the Cascades and Tahoe is a significant stronghold for this majestic species. Tree specialist Maria Mircheva will teach us about Sugar Pine Foundation’s efforts to protect this beautiful tree and will lead the group along the Tahoe Rim Trail to see some beautiful examples of this majestic pine. \nCome hike in the woods with us and learn about forest ecology along the way! \nWhat to Expect\nTRTA outings are group outings\, and we do our best to keep the group together. Trip leaders dedicate much of their time throughout the year\, sharing their passion for the outdoors. They are well-trained and experienced. Please respect the decisions made on the trail. \n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] \n\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_column_text css=””] \nDifficulty\nIntermediate \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_column_text css=””] \nDistance\n3 miles roundtrip \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_column_text css=””] \nLocation\nKingsbury South / Stagecoach Trailhead[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_column_text css=””] \nTime\n9:00 AM to 12:00 PM \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] \n\nWhat to Bring\n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=””] \n\n\n\nWater (~one liter per person)\nSnacks\nWindbreaker/ jacket\nClosed-toed shoes\nTrekking poles (optional)\nLip Balm (≥ SPF 15+)\nSunscreen\nSunglasses\nHat\nField guide (optional)\nBinoculars (optional)\nCamera (optional)\nPersonal Medications/Epi-Pen*\n\n\n\n*Communicate any medical issues in a private conversation with your guides at the trailhead.\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=””][/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] \nCheck out more about our wonderful partners at:\n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”55px”][vc_column_text css=””] \nFor more information about the trek\, contact angeliquec@tahoerimtrail.org.\n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”55px”][vc_btn title=”Registration Information Here” color=”primary” size=”lg” align=”center” i_type=”typicons” i_icon_typicons=”typcn typcn-tree” css_animation=”fadeIn” css=”” add_icon=”true” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Ftahoerimtrail.my.salesforce-sites.com%2FCnP_PaaS_EVT__ExternalRegistrationPage%3Fevent_id%3Da24Un000001RWRRIA4%26|target:_blank”][vc_empty_space height=”55px”][vc_column_text css=””]Leave No Trace \nWe practice the seven Leave No Trace (LNT) principles on each of our programs. Bear-proof food storage\, such as a bear keg\, is required (bear hangs are not allowed). TRTA will provide bear canisters. This is an authentic wilderness camp\, and volunteers should have some backpacking experience. Meals will be provided but prepared on personal backpacking stoves. SUMMARY:Summer Exploration Series: North Shore Nature Ramble
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \nDescription\nJoin the Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) guides and partner Tahoe Institute for Natural Science (TINS) on a stroll from Brockway Summit on Highway 267 along the Tahoe Rim Trail to Picnic Rock with trained naturalists. The TRTA is the primary steward of the Tahoe Rim Trail system\, and TINS is a valuable ecological stewardship organization and community education provider. Together\, our organizations collaborate to provide educational experiences across the Tahoe Rim Trail and throughout the Basin. \nTINS naturalist Will Richardson leads the way in search of wildlife\, wildflowers\, and spectacular scenery along the Tahoe Rim Trail. Enjoy nature’s treasures before soaking up the great views of Lake Tahoe on the north shore. We will discuss natural history topics related to geology\, forest ecology\, birds\, and anything Nature in Tahoe! Bring your binoculars and inquisitive minds for this nature ramble with TRTA and TINS. Exact mileage will be determined by the group’s pace and interest in hiking over observing\, but will not exceed 4 miles during this event. We will gain 750′ from the cars\, so come prepared to hike uphill. \nWhat to Expect\nTRTA outings are group outings\, and we do our best to keep the group together. Trip leaders dedicate much of their time throughout the year\, sharing their passion for the outdoors. They are well-trained and experienced.
