Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) has created this privacy statement and use agreement to demonstrate its commitment to privacy, describe our donor privacy practices, and describe our website’s information gathering and dissemination practices.
TRTA owns and operates the website www.tahoerimtrail.org. This site provides information, resources and data to users and is also intended to raise awareness of and funding for TRTA. TRTA collects personal information, as offered by the user, for those who register on TRTA’s website. TRTA is the sole owner of the information collected and takes every precaution to protect our users’ Personally Identifiable Information. Visitors to the site are not required to provide Personally Identifiable Information in order to browse the valuable information included on the site.
The Site is provided as a service to our users. Please review the following terms and conditions of use, which govern your use of the Site (the "Agreement").
Your use of the Site constitutes your agreement to follow and be bound by the Agreement. We reserve the right to update or modify this Agreement at any time without prior notice. For this reason, we encourage you to review the Agreement whenever you use this Site. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Site.
What We Collect and Store Automatically
If you do nothing during your visit but browse through the website, read pages, or download information, we will gather and store certain information about your visit automatically. Please note that this information does not identify you personally in any way. The TRTA website uses Host Monster Awstats to store anonymous traffic data, some of which may be stored in cookies. We automatically collect and store only the following information about your visit:
- The Internet domain (for example, yourhikingclub.org) and IP address (an IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer whenever you are surfing the Web) from which you access our website.
- The type of browser and operating system used to access our site.
- The date and time you access our site.
- The pages you visit at our site.
- If you linked to our website from another website, the address of that website.
We use the information we collect in this fashion to count the number and type of visitors to the different pages on our site, and to help us make our site more useful to visitors. Our website logs do not identify you personally, but we make attempt to link them with the individuals that actually browse the site.
Information Collected from Donors
Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) collects and uses various information from donors that includes, but is not limited to, amount donated, address, telephone number, donor comments and email address. Donor information may be collected online or through the mail. Tax laws in the United States require that TRTA retain contact information and the contribution level of donors on file.
Use of Information
Personal information may be used by TRTA to communicate with you, register you to receive information, allow purchasing and shipping of memberships and/or merchandise, and/or enable you to participate in and respond to invitations to special events. If you prefer not to receive these notices, please click on the SafeUnsubscribe link at the bottom of any TRTA e-mails.
We may occasionally make personal information available to select other organizations, including but not limited to agents working on our behalf, or companies or organizations with whom we have a contractual relationship. We may also provide aggregated, non-identifiable data to these and other organizations. Although we may make reasonable inquiries to determine that such other organizations maintain privacy policies comparable to TRTA’s, we are not responsible for the enforcement of such policies. TRTA may use personal information to send updates and notices to donors and/or registered web users via e-mail or direct mail. TRTA may also use your personal information to contact you by email, mail or by telephone regarding special offers or updated information about TRTA. TRTA will, in addition, use contact information to:
- Distribute receipts for donations
- Thank donors for their donations
- Internal analysis and record keeping
- Reporting to relevant U.S. and State agencies (these reports are not for public inspection)
Donors may be listed in TRTA’s Annual Report, unless the donor requests anonymity for their donation.
All access to donor financial information is strictly limited to staff and leadership who need access to this data for TRTA tasks. No such data are given to any person, organization or group who does not need to access those data.
Payments for memberships, donations and course or registration fees are payable within 15 days of registration if not processed through the 3rd party credit card processing on the website. Refunds will be made available based on specific program registration/refund contracts and will be processed within 30 days of request. Refunds will be made less related administrative fees &/or related credit card fees.

Security of Your Information
TRTA takes the following measures to ensure that information collected on TRTA’s website is kept secure and is used as intended. All data is stored on secure, firewall-protected servers either at TRTA offices or at the website “Host site” and is only accessible to authorized TRTA staff and authorized IT personnel.
Sensitive data, such as credit card and other financial information, is collected on secure forms and transmitted using industry-standard Secure Socket Layer Encryption (SSL) technology by a 3rd party processor. Online credit card information is retained by this 3rd party only as long as necessary to complete the donation or purchase request by the user.
TRTA’s website contains links to other sites. Please be aware that TRTA is not responsible for the content or the privacy practices of any other website including but not limited to those for which we provide links. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of every website that collects Personally Identifiable Information. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by TRTA’s website as noted earlier.
The Tahoe Rim Trail Association logos, website, content, and tag line: “a trail like no other” are copyrighted and the sole intellectual property of the Tahoe Rim Trail Association.
Choice of Law
This Agreement shall be construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Nevada, without regard to any conflict of law provisions. Any dispute arising under this Agreement shall be resolved exclusively by the state and/or federal courts of the State of Nevada, County of Douglas. The waiver of any provision of the Agreement shall not be considered a waiver of any other provision or of TRTA's right to require strict observance of each of the terms herein. If any provision of the Agreement is found to be unenforceable or invalid for any reason, that provision shall be severable, and all other provisions shall remain in full force and effect. This Agreement constitutes the entire agreement between us relating to your use of the Site.
Termination of Use
TRTA may, in its sole discretion, terminate your account or your use of the TRTA Web site at anytime. You are personally liable for any orders that you place or charges that you incur prior to termination. TRTA reserves the right to change, suspend or discontinue all or any aspects of the TRTA Web site at any time without prior notice.
