SUMMARY:Western White Pine Hike w/ the Sugar Pine Foundation
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \nDescription\nThe Sugar Pine Foundation (SPF) is a local non-profit organization dedicated to restoring the natural regeneration of white pines in the Tahoe Region and beyond. The Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) is the primary steward of the Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT) System. Together\, our organizations partner to provide educational experiences across the Tahoe Rim Trail and throughout the Basin. \nCome meet the western white pine\, a towering emblem of the American West\, boasting soft needles and a regal presence. It’s not just any tree—it’s a warrior battling threats from logging\, urban sprawl\, and climate woes\, earning its status as a state concern. An introduced fungus has wiped out many of the western white pine west of the Cascades and Tahoe is a significant stronghold for this majestic species. Tree specialist Maria Mircheva will teach us about Sugar Pine Foundation’s efforts to protect this beautiful tree and will lead the group along the Tahoe Rim Trail to see some beautiful examples of this majestic pine. \nCome hike in the woods with us and learn about forest ecology along the way! \nWhat to Expect\nTRTA outings are group outings\, and we do our best to keep the group together. Trip leaders dedicate much of their time throughout the year\, sharing their passion for the outdoors. They are well-trained and experienced. SUMMARY:Backpacking 101
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \n$200 TRTA Members\, $225 TRTA Non-Members\n  \nCourse Description\nJoin the Tahoe Rim Trail Association for an informative and experiential Backpacking101 course. You will learn tips and tricks to enjoy a night out in the true Tahoe backcountry\, and practice planning all the trip logistics from choosing a destination to building a food menu. We welcome new and seasoned backcountry enthusiasts eager to upgrade their wilderness experience by learning how to backpack for the first time or adding to your existing skills. \nStudents can expect an afternoon in the classroom\, followed by a weekend overnight hike in the field for hands-on practice and to experience genuine backcountry living. There is also a virtual ‘shakedown’ meeting the week before to go over people’s gear\, discuss any questions\, and allow time for adjustments. \nThe classroom portion will provide concepts in trip planning\, Leave No Trace principles and bear safety\, critical gear needs and how to pack\, and how to thrive in outdoor environments while mitigating risk to yourself and others. The field portion of this course is not an endurance test but will consist of a 5-mile hike into a wilderness area where students will receive hands-on instruction in making a successful camp\, water treatment\, cooking\, travel\, how to use gear\, and how to do all of this while protecting the environment. Our goal is for students to walk away from the course with new and additional skills\, knowledge\, and confidence to enjoy a backcountry adventure solo or with family and friends. \n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \n\nCourse Information\n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_btn title=”Itinerary and Topics” style=”custom” custom_background=”#0093d6″ custom_text=”#ffffff” size=”lg” align=”center” css=”” button_block=”true” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fdocs.google.com%2Fdocument%2Fd%2F1Az4aOiDqpjKVtAsPJmkAyeHszwrw020d%2Fedit|target:_blank”][vc_column_text] \nDaily Topics\, Schedule \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_btn title=”Registration Information Here” style=”custom” custom_background=”#ff6659″ custom_text=”#ffffff” size=”lg” align=”center” css=”” button_block=”true” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Ftahoerimtrail.my.salesforce-sites.com%2FCnP_PaaS_EVT__ExternalRegistrationPage%3Fevent_id%3Da24Un0000010qxKIAQ|target:_blank”][vc_column_text] \nSecure your spot! \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_btn title=”Student Logistics” style=”custom” custom_background=”#0093d6″ custom_text=”#ffffff” size=”lg” align=”center” css=”” button_block=”true” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fdocs.google.com%2Fdocument%2Fd%2F1qHlIDOnVGE-gJGrQuuCu64837FYvWKZU%2Fedit|target:_blank”][vc_column_text] \nCancelation Policy\, Local Weather\, Lodging Options \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column][vc_cta h2=”TRTA Membership Discount” h4=”Active TRTA Members get 10% off! SUMMARY:Forest History Snowshoe Trek with Sugar Pine Foundation
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nDescription\nWe have partnered with the Sugar Pine Foundation (SPF) to deliver a leisurely snowshoe trek around Spooner Lake. However\, it could be more challenging if snow levels are deep. Along the way\, our experts and friends at the Sugar Pine Foundation will talk about the natural and cultural history of the forest\, including everything from historic logging to modern-day fire impression techniques. Come and learn why our forest looks the way it does and what the future holds. \nWhat to Expect\nTRTA/SPF treks are group treks\, and we do our best to keep the group together. Trip leaders dedicate a great deal of their time throughout the year sharing their passion for the outdoors. They are well-trained and experienced.
