The Echo Summit Reroute replaced a 1.3-mile section of the co-located Pacific Crest Trail/Tahoe Rim Trail with new singletrack trail away from Highway 50 at Echo Summit and into the Lake Audrain basin, reducing the sights and sounds of the highway. The project broke ground in 2018 and was completed in 2020.
