Cost: Free

Calling all educators, youth workers, and parents! Get certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid to make your space a safe place.

Course Description

The Tahoe Rim Trail Association is hosting a Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) course taught by the Children’s Cabinet. This course provides individuals with a foundation in mental health first aid concepts critical to responding effectively to the mental and emotional needs of youth.

This fast-paced, hands-on training is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, and health and human service workers how to help adolescents, ages 12-18, who are experiencing mental health or addiction challenges or crises. Please be aware that YMHFA training will cover various topics of a sensitive nature, including depression/anxiety, substance use, psychosis, or other topics that may potentially be distressing for some. However, the YMHFA program emphasizes recovery and resiliency and aims to teach participants how to provide assistance to youth experiencing mental health challenges.

Pre-Course Work

Participants must complete a two-hour self-paced module prior to attending the course. Details regarding the pre-course work will be emailed upon registration. Those who do not complete the pre-course work will not be eligible for certification.

**Dogs will be on-site during the course. Please contact juliak@tahoerimtrail.org if you have concerns or questions.
