Trail Talk with TINS: Tahoe Basin Birds of Prey

June 22, 2023 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Cost: Free

Trail Talk Birds of Prey

Description

What has a hooked beak, feet with talons, powerful eyesight, and a carnivorous diet?

Raptors, of course!

Did you know that all raptor species have multiple eyelids? Or that a primary source of protein for bald eagles in Lake Tahoe are waterfowl in the winter? From the Peregrine Falcons nesting atop Castle Rock to Ospreys that hunt for fish daily in alpine lakes and rivers, the Tahoe Basin is home to many species of raptors.

Get to know your “neigh-birds” (local birds of prey) at this fascinating Trail Talk in collaboration with Naturalist and professional birder Sarah Hockensmith from the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science (TINS).
