Transportation
The Lake Tahoe area is comprised of roughly fifteen towns, six counties, and two states. Transportation options to the Tahoe Rim Trail require logistical planning. The Association encourages users to explore alternative transportation options to help minimize user parking hardships as trailhead parking access is limited. Below are resources for public transit, taxis, and shuttles to access the Tahoe Rim Trail. For more information about getting around Tahoe in general visit Linking Tahoe.
Public transit is a great option for reaching trailheads. Unfortunately, here in the Tahoe Basin, services are limited. Major TRT Trailheads connected to public transit include Tahoe City at 64 Acres and Kingsbury South/Daggett Summit. The map below provides details on popular public transit stops in the region. There are no direct public transit services that operate from North Shore to South Shore. There are connecting routes to the Carson Valley on the South Shore and routes to Truckee from the North Shore. Note: only services animals are permitted and limited bike racks are available. Schedules change based on the time of year.

The Capitol Corridor train connects the Bay Area to Sacramento. Connecting buses from Sacramento are available to Truckee (3 routes per day) and South Lake Tahoe (1 route per day). Amtrak California Zephyr Train connects Truckee to the Bay Area (westbound service). Expect possible delays.
Uber and Lyft operate in the Tahoe Basin. South Shore Nevada pick-up rides are limited. Smartphone LTE/3G coverage is required. Reserve rides in advance with the UZURV app, compatible with Uber and Lyft.
