Have you enjoyed volunteering on the Tahoe Rim Trail and want to take your enthusiasm a step further?
Consider becoming a TRTA Crew Leader by applying to participate in Crew Leader Training!
What is a TRTA Crew Leader?
Crew Leaders support workday leaders in managing volunteer trail workdays. This can include leading small breakout groups, ensuring all safety protocols are followed, responding to any incidents within your crew, and helping create a positive, rewarding experience for every volunteer on site.
What is Crew Leader Training?
Crew Leader Training takes place over two days and includes:
- An in-class session covering leadership basics, trail building standards, and safety procedures
- Hands-on trail building experience
- A light breakfast, refreshments, and lunch
After completing the training, you will be prepared to:
- Assist workday leaders by supporting small groups and sharing knowledge of trail building, TRTA standards, and safety practices
- Grow into planning and leading a workday in partnership with staff and fellow Crew Leaders if you choose
- Earn additional certifications such as Wilderness First Aid, crosscut, and chainsaw
Why does the TRTA need Crew Leaders?
With over 200 miles in the Tahoe Rim Trail system, it truly takes a community of volunteers to care for these trails. Crew Leaders are pivotal in identifying needs, supporting volunteers, and facilitating successful workdays. Your leadership helps ensure that trail users continue to give rave reviews about how well maintained the TRT is.
