Course Description
The Tahoe Rim Trail Association is hosting a two-day Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course taught by NOLS Wilderness Medicine (NOLS WM). This course provides individuals with a foundation in important first aid concepts critical to responding effectively to emergencies in a remote backcountry environment.
This fast-paced, hands-on training is designed to meet the needs of trip leaders, camp staff, outdoor enthusiasts, and individuals working in remote locations. It will introduce you to caring for people who become ill or injured far from definitive medical care. Classroom lectures and demonstrations are combined with realistic scenarios where mock patients will challenge you to integrate your learning. At the end of the course, you’ll have the knowledge, skills, and ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations.
This course may also be used to recertify NOLS Wilderness Medicine Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and NOLS Wilderness Medicine WEMT (wilderness portion only) certifications.
COVID-19 Vaccine Requirement
Close physical contact is an inherent part of this course. All students are encouraged to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and up-to-date with any boosters they are eligible to receive. Standard PPE will continue to be used in scenarios, and NOLS will continue to monitor CDC Community Levels each week and implement indoor masking in counties with high levels at the time of this course.
Please see the NOLS WM COVID-19 Disclosure for more information.
