Challenges Ahead and How You Can Help
- $145,000 in federal grant funding is at risk, and we are still seeking clarity on how federal decisions will impact critical projects like the Tahoe Meadows Interpretive Loop (the TRT’s first ADA-accessible trail) and critical Desolation Wilderness Trail Maintenance projects.
- Potential Forest Service staffing shortages could impact trailhead infrastructure and maintenance, especially trash removal and restroom cleanliness. There will be a lack of professional presence to enforce regulations around fire restrictions, bear canisters, illegal camping, and more: putting our land and wildlife at risk. The burden of maintaining trailheads and promoting sustainable recreation will entirely fall on non-profit organizations like the TRTA.
- We need you! With uncertainty surrounding federal funding, private support from our community of trail users is more important than ever. Your membership, donations, and volunteer hours help keep the trail open and accessible.
