This Privacy Statement describes how Tahoe Rim Trail Association (“TRTA,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information when you communicate with our staff via SMS text messaging. This statement applies specifically to SMS communications and supplements our general privacy practices.
Information We Collect
When you exchange text messages with TRTA staff, we may collect:
- Your mobile phone number
- The content of messages you send to us and that we send to you
- The date, time, and delivery status of messages
- Carrier information when provided by your wireless provider
- Your consent to receive messages and the method by which it was given
How We Use Your Information
We use SMS information solely to communicate with you about your inquiry, volunteer activity, donation, membership, event participation, or other engagement with TRTA. Specifically, we use this information to:
- Respond to your questions and requests
- Coordinate volunteer activities and events
- Acknowledge donations and memberships
- Share trail conditions and safety information when relevant to your request
- Maintain records required for legal, accounting, or operational purposes
No Sharing of Mobile Information
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All categories of information described in this statement exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
Limited Information Sharing
We may share SMS-related information only in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers who help us deliver SMS messages (such as our messaging platform and telecommunications carriers), bound by confidentiality and limited to the purpose of message delivery.
- Legal requirements when disclosure is required by law, subpoena, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of TRTA, our staff, or the public.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your phone number or message content.
Data Retention
We retain SMS records only as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose for which the information was collected, to provide ongoing service to you, or as required by applicable law. You may request deletion of your records by contacting us using the information below.
Your Choices and Rights
You have the following rights regarding your SMS information:
- Opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message you receive from us.
- Request access to the SMS records we hold about you.
- Request correction or deletion of your SMS records.
- Withdraw consent for SMS communication at any time.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect SMS information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. However, no method of electronic communication is fully secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children’s Privacy
Our SMS program is not intended for individuals under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect mobile phone numbers from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with mobile information, please contact us so we can remove it.

TRTA may update this Privacy Statement from time to time. Changes take effect when posted on this page. We encourage you to review this statement periodically.
